Next Stage is Dallas Theater Center’s after-school theater program for students who love to play, create, and perform. Through fun, hands-on activities in acting, movement, storytelling, and teamwork, students build confidence while exploring the magic of live theater. Whether they’re new to the stage or already dreaming of Broadway, Next Stage helps young artists grow their skills and find their unique voice in a supportive and creative environment.

Join Dallas Theater Center’s Public Works Department for Next Stage: Act 2 – SpongeBob the Musical (Youth Edition)! This exciting performance-based program gives young artists ages 6–18 the chance to perform on the iconic Kalita Humphreys Theater stage under the guidance of professional teaching artists from our Tony Award–winning theater.
Whether you’re new to performing or already love the spotlight, this joyful underwater adventure celebrates imagination, teamwork, and confidence.
Rehearsals: March 30 – June 5, 2026
Leads & Supporting Roles: Mondays & Wednesdays, 5-8 PM + Saturdays 10 AM – 1 PM
Ensemble Roles: Saturdays 10 AM – 1 PM until Tech Week
Tech Week: June 1-5, 9 AM – 4 PM
Performances: Saturday, June 6 (matinee & evening)

Step behind the curtain and discover the magic that makes theater come to life. In this hands-on introduction to technical theater, students will explore all the essential departments that support a professional production at Dallas Theater Center.

This class is perfect for students who are curious about theater beyond acting and want to get a real look at the artistry and teamwork that make a production happen. No previous experience required.

PRODUCTION LAB ADD-ON: Students have the option to step into real-world production work on The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition. This option is ideal for students who want immersive, hands-on theater experience and the chance to support a full musical production from rehearsal through performance.
Optional Production Lab Add-On: Beginning May 2: Saturdays with the SpongeBob cast, 10 AM–1 PM
Tech Week: June 1–5, 9 AM–4 PM
