Play Submissions - Dallas Theater Center
PLAY SUBMISSION POLICY

PLAY SUBMISSION POLICY

Dallas Theater Center only accepts full-length scripts from literary agents and theatre professionals with whom we have an existing relationship. Plays and musicals may be sent to literary@dallastheatercenter.org. If you submit a musical, please include demos if you have them but do not feel obligated to create them. We will inquire about demos later in the process if there is interest.

DFW BASED PLAYWRIGHTS

Dallas Theater Center has an open submission policy for all DFW-based playwrights. Please submit the following to literary@dallastheatercenter.org a full-length script (60 pages or more), and a professional resume.

Please allow 6-9 months for the Literary Office to consider and respond to your full script submission.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • Currently, we are only reading for production. We do not have workshops, readings, commissions, or further development opportunities to offer at this time. DTC encourages playwrights in search of further development to explore the many services and programs offered by the following group of play development organizations:
Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Black and Latino Playwrights Conference, Great Plains Theatre Conference, National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, New Harmony Project, PlayPenn, Playwrights’ Center, Playwrights Realm and Seven Devils New Play Foundry.
  • DTC has an eleven-person acting company – the Brierley Resident Acting Company. Therefore, we rarely program one and two person plays unless they provide great roles for members of the company.
  • We produce five to six subscription shows each season. We produce in three spaces: The Potter Rose Performance Hall (551 seats), Kalita Humphreys Theater (471 seats) and our Studio Theater (125 seats). Typically, we produce no more than one play in our Studio Theater. This means the majority of plays and musicals we program must appeal to a large and very broad audience.
  • We understand that there are many great plays and musicals that do not fit our needs. But fortunately, the DFW area is home to an amazing group of theaters of all shapes and sizes. Plays, musicals, and performance pieces ranging from experimental to splashy crowd-pleasing musicals grace DFW stages year-round. DTC loves to play matchmaker.

Thank you for your interest in Dallas Theater Center.
