From Liz Mikel: My DTC Story
My name is Liz Mikel and I’m a proud founding member of the Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company at Dallas Theater Center.
I would love to tell you my DTC Story.
Growing up in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas in the early 1970s, I never imagined I would forge a lifelong career in theater and the performing arts in the city that raised me. I still remember the first time I stepped foot onstage at Dallas Theater Center. It was a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and I played Mustard Seed. I was onstage with DTC legends: Randy Moore, Nance Williamson, and one of my lifelong mentors and the director of this season’s production of Where We Stand, Akin Babatunde. They poured into me, and now, decades later, I get to pour into the next generation of artists gracing DTC stages.
My journey as an actress, singer, and dancer led me to film and television, and even to Broadway! Through every stage of my life, I keep coming home to DTC. Thirty years later, DTC remains a place I am proud to call my artistic home. A place that nurtures artists, inspires audiences, and changes lives, just as it changed mine.
